Certificate IV in Dance - Years 10, 11 & 12

​The three-year program originated to give students the advanced skills and understanding within the dance industries, as well as the associated skills and knowledge essential to adult life. Students complete their dance studies within a real high school education, ensuring the development of a whole person. This educational structure allows the aspiring dancer to choose whether they would like to devote their studies to solely dance, the arts, or something completely different without pathway and financial restriction.

Core learning areas:

 

Techniques within Jazz, Contemporary, Ballet

  • Jazz Genre Studies (Musical Theatre, Fosse, and Broadway)
  • Contemporary Genre Studies (such as, Cunningham, Graham, and Horton)
  • Commercial Dance (Hip Hop, Break Dance and Jazz)
  • Showgirl Technique (Cruise ship and other related contract work)
  • Contemporary Artistry (Improvisation, Partnering, and History)
  • Health Studies (Nutrition, Psychology, and Anatomy)
  • Physical Conditioning (Yoga, Pilates, and Personal Training)
  • Career Planning (such as, Producing, CV, Head shots, and Show Reel)
  • Art of Making and Education (Choreography Design, and Teaching)
  • Related Studies (Aerial, Acrobatics, Production, Vocal, Speech and Acting)

The Academy of Dance Industries is a specialist Dance Excellence Program therefore entry is not automatic or based on an enrolment catchment area.  Applicant's will be shortlisted based on their submission within each of the below audition rounds.

Round 1

Applications for students entering Years 10 or 11 in 2020 close on August 24, 2019.

Round 2

Successful Round 1 applicants are required to submit video footage of their dance ability.  Footage should include the applicant's ability in either Ballet, Contemporary and/or Jazz. 

Please note, this footage does not need to be professionally filmed. 

Round 3

Successful Round 2 applicants are required to attend a live audition on October 16.  This audition takes place on the Ormeau Woods SHS campus in front of a live panel.  Within the individual audition, applicants are required to perform a solo dance piece and partake in a live interview.  The panel will determine if the applicant is suitable to be accepted into the Academy of Dance Industries.

Notification of results for each round ​will be received within 10 working days of the closing date.  Appeals against the panel's assessment of 'non-offer' are submitted to the school within 10 working days of receiving the letter.
