At the Academy of Dance Industries (AoDI), imagination meets opportunity. We empower students to turn their passion into real-world experience, providing hands-on, industry-driven opportunities that connect them directly with professionals and help establish clear career pathways in dance.

Our program goes beyond technique, we nurture creativity, leadership, and adaptability, ensuring students graduate as well-rounded, confident, and industry-ready individuals. By combining rigorous training with authentic experiences, students develop both the artistic excellence and professional skills needed to thrive in a variety of dance careers or further education.

AoDI is a place where all students can flourish, not just in dance, but in life. Our program spans a broad range of styles and disciplines, including Jazz, Contemporary, Showgirl, Lyrical, Musical Theatre, Hip Hop, and Ballet. We welcome aspiring dancers to join us and explore their potential, discover new opportunities, and grow into the artist and professional they dream to become.

At the Academy of Dance Industries, we prepare dancers to excel both on stage and in life. Our program develops versatile, confident artists who are industry-ready, equipped with professional skills and real-world experience. Graduates leave Ormeau Woods State High School with the tools, opportunities, and mindset to pursue careers in dance or further education with purpose and passion.

In Years 7 to 10, through sequential learning aligned to ACARA v9.0 curriculum, students develop skills necessary for success across an array of Dance related industries. Across Years 11 to 12, students complete their Certificate III in Dance qualification through COSAMP PTY LTD. The skills learnt will prepare them for success across a range of Industry Pathways.

Application Guide

Students who apply for the Academy of Dance Excellence (AoDI) Program complete a 2-stage process:

 

Stage O​ne

  • Complete a Arts Excellence Academies Application form (indicating preferrence for Academy of Dance Industries)
  • Attach two most recent levels of Achievement, Effort and Behaviour report cards
  • CV outlining your dance experience, accompanied by a reference from your current dance school/teacher
  • ​​Stage one applications close 3.00pm Friday 25 April 2025​

 

A panel will assess all applications.  Successful applicants will be invited to progress to Stage Two.

*Not all candidates will progress to Stage Two.

 

Stage Two

Applicants will be invited to attend a 90 minute Dance Workshop/Audition at Ormeau Woods State High School in term 2:

    • The workshop will combine ballet, contemporary and Jazz techniques
    • Students will be required to have a pre-prepared 1 min solo in a genre of their choice Please note, workshop date will be advised via email.

 

A panel will then assess applicants to be offered a place in the Academy of Dance Industries (AODI) Program.

  • To complete, please download the application form and save to your computer.

  • For full functionality you will need to complete within Adobe Acrobat Reader which can be downloaded from HERE
    please note - limited functionality is available on mobile devices

  • Save updated application using the students name as the file name.

  • Email with supporting your documents to academies@ormeauwoodsshs.eq.edu.au
