Academy Overview
The Ormeau Woods State High School Academy of Football Excellence aims to develop the technical and tactical capabilities of all players. What sets us apart from other schools in the region is our professional and holistic approach to the design of the program combined with the opportunities players have to develop their performance within the curriculum. Our commitment to creating a high-performance environment for our players is unwavering and has contributed to rapid growth in our early years.
Pro-Player and Feenix Futsal supplement the delivery our programme by delivering expert weekly sessions to our students, whilst we consult with BioActive on the delivery of our Strength and Conditioning program. Our HPE theory units have been thoughtfully designed whereby we use football as a lens to teach students lifelong skills as required by ACARA, such as nutrition, mental health and positive relationships.
Academy Outline
In Years 7 & 8 students receive 8 Football Academy sessions per week throughout the year. This comprises 4 Football sessions, 1 Futsal session, 2 Strength & Conditioning sessions and 1 HPE Theory session.
In Years 9, 10, 11 & 12, students receive 4 Football Academy sessions per week throughout the year. This comprises 3 Football sessions and 1 Futsal session.
This is supplemented with nutrition workshops delivered by accredited sports dieticians and strength and conditioning workshops delivered by ASCA accredited coaches.
Along the way, students have opportunities to gain formal qualifications in refereeing and coaching, to support the development of their leadership skills whilst providing potential pathways to employment within the Football industry.
FQ Academy League 1
From 2026, students who compete in FQ Academy League 1 for their club will receive one individual training session per week and opportunities to train and play up in age groups to enhance their development.
Goalkeepers
We have a Goalkeeper specific curriculum which has been designed by a UEFA B Qualified and former National Team Goalkeeper Coach. Once a week, a Pro-Player Goalkeeper Coach delivers goalkeeper-specific sessions to our goalkeepers. This is supplemented with additional Goalkeeper sessions each week from our internal qualified Goalkeeper Coach.
