Ormeau Woods State High School offers students in all year levels a wide range of sporting opportunities throughout the year.  Our interschool Champs Days offers students the opportunity to represent and compete in Touch Football, Soccer, Basketball, Netball, Rugby League and Volleyball.

School Carnivals

Throughout the year, Ormeau Woods holds annual swimming, cross country and athletics carnivals. These carnivals are designed to maximise student participation and building of relationships.

Splashfest (swimming carnival) starts off each year in Term 1.  This carnival allows students the opportunity to compete at their own level and build house spirit.

Run in the Sun (cross country) is a day that not only allows students the opportunity to compete in cross country and qualify for the school district team, but also a day where the student council will raise money for a chosen charity to support.

Ormeaulympics is our annual athletics carnival, held in Term 2.  Again, a fun day had by all students and staff involved, as well as an opportunity provided for students to raise money for various school endeavours on the day through a number of different fun activities available.

Students are allocated to one of six Sports Houses for inter-house sport education activities upon enrolment:

Representative Sport (District Sport)

Ormeau Woods is part of the Pacific District Sports Region where students are offered the opportunity to trial and progress through from District to Regional and State level representatives in their chosen sport.  Each sport trial is posted in school notices prior to nominations being due.  After students have nominated, they must complete the following Sports Trial Booklet online and have a printed copy signed by either by the Head of Department for Health and Movement Studies or the school Principal prior to attending district trials.

Extra-Curricular Sports

Ormeau Woods students are provided with various opportunities throughout the year to represent the school at a number of high level competitions.  Sports offered for students include, but are not limited to; Touch Football, Rugby League, Futsal, Soccer, AFL, Netball, Volleyball and Basketball.  Students who choose to participate in these activities are provided with the opportunity to train with the dedicated coaches of these sports with training sessions occurring before school, during lunch breaks and after school.
