Homestay Information for Potential Host Families
Being a homestay host provides great insights into other cultures and can be a very rewarding cultural exchange experience.
Life-long friendships are often established throughout the process. It is not a matter of simply renting out a room in your house.
Students choose to pay for homestay accommodation during their study because it offers them the opportunity to be part of a good family environment. They like to be treated like members of the family.
If you are interested in joining our homestay program please refer to the section on the right of this page called 'Related links', complete your 'Homestay family profile' and email this to tcapr2@eq.edu.au
An information package will be provided to you containing a Homestay Booklet, Blue Card application and relevant forms to become a Homestay Provider. Please download the forms on the right for more information.
Homestay Information for Students
Ormeau Woods State High School international students are accommodated in a range of homes that are in close proximity to the school. Student accommodation is managed by Ormeau Woods State High School's homestay coordinator, Tanya Capra. Each family is personally visited and the home is inspected. When the inspection takes place we look for signs of a clean, caring and friendly home. We take great care in matching the student's requirements and interests with their host family. All homestay providers of students under 18 have a suitability card issued by the commission for children and young people. This card shows that the provider does not have an Australian criminal history.
The majority of our families reside within a 10 kilometre radius of the school and all have access to public transport or are within walking distance from the school.
We know from experience that the homestay environment is one of the most important aspects of a student's program in Australia. Therefore we try our best to ensure a good match is made.
