If you can see it in your mind, you can hold it in your hand - at the Academy of Dance Industries we believe in developing the mind of a whole person - inspiring our students to be prosperous as an individual, and hungry to learn. We shape meaningful values and expert skillsets - sustaining our industry through educating the youth in authentic learning experiences. Within AoDI we work to develop cohesive, versatile and nuanced professionals who are diverse and prepared for a multifaceted career. Our mantra is to create infinite possibilities for the young adult, who are prepared for top tier tertiary education or the dance industry of their choice. Here at Ormeau Woods SHS, AoDI is for all - a place to flourish not only in dance, but in life.

The specific aims of AoDI are to develop student knowledge and skills in a vast range of dance styles and industries in the following, including: Jazz, Contemporary, Showgirl, Lyrical, Musical Theatre, Hip Hop, and Ballet.  Students will also enrich their learning through the following platforms:

The Academy of Dance Industries aims to develop versatile dancers who are highly skilled, socially responsible and ready for entry into professional dance industry employment upon graduating from Ormeau Woods State High School. In Years 7 to 9, through sequential learning aligned to the ACARA v9.0 curriculum, students develop skills necessary for success across an array of Dance related industries. Across Years 10 to 12, students complete their Certificate IV in Dance qualification through EmpowerDance PTY LTD.  The skills learnt will prepare them for success across a range of Industry Pathways.

Application Guide

Students who apply for the Academy of Dance Excellence (AoDI) Program complete a 2-stage process:

 

Stage O​ne

  • Complete a Arts Excellence Academies Application form (indicating preferrence for Academy of Dance Industries)
  • Attach two most recent levels of Achievement, Effort and Behaviour report cards
  • CV outlining your dance experience, accompanied by a reference from your current dance school/teacher
  • ​​Stage one applications close 3.00pm Friday 26 April 2024​

 

A panel will assess all applications.  Successful applicants will be invited to progress to Stage Two.

*Not all candidates will progress to Stage Two.

 

Stage Two

Applicants will be invited to attend a 90 minute Dance Workshop/Audition at Ormeau Woods State High School in term 2:

    • The workshop will combine ballet, contemporary and Jazz techniques
    • Students will be required to have a pre-prepared 1 min solo in a genre of their choice Please note, workshop date will be advised via email.

 

A panel will then assess applicants to be offered a place in the Academy of Dance Industries (AODI) Program.
