The Ormeau Woods State High School Rugby League Academy is an elite training and coaching program designed for gifted and talented rugby league students, empowering them to pursue their sporting aspirations while achieving academic success. This academy provides a structured and supportive environment where students with demonstrated ability in rugby league receive specialist mentoring, training, and education from experienced coaches including Ben Hannant as our Head Coach.
Expert Coaching Staff & Competitions
Our highly skilled coaching team brings extensive experience from both playing and coaching at elite levels. Students benefit from specialist coaching in skills, game strategy, and performance analysis, with opportunities to compete in local competitions to showcase and develop their talent. Our academy is equipped with modern training facilities and a structured strength and conditioning program, ensuring students develop the physical attributes needed for elite-level rugby league. Sport Excellence Curriculum
The academy integrates rugby league training with academic learning, allowing students to balance their sporting commitments with educational excellence. Our sporting curriculum is designed to develop not only technical skills but also leadership, teamwork, and personal growth, preparing students for future pathways in rugby league, further education, and careers in the sports industry.
Student Obligations & Expectations
Students selected for the Rugby League Academy are expected to demonstrate commitment, discipline, and respect both on and off the field. Academy members must maintain high academic standards, positive behaviour, and full participation in training and competition.

Application Guide
Students who apply for the Academy of Rugby League Excellence Program must complete a 2-stage process:
Stage One
Successful applicants will be invited to progress to Stage Two.
Stage Two
Applicants will be invited to attend a rugby league trial in term 2 at Ormeau Woods State High School:
