The Academy of Fine Art (formerly ​SoFA) provides students an opportunity to engage in an enriched Fine Art Curriculum whilst being immersed in a dynamic and creative learning environment. The program enables students to engage in a variety of enrichment opportunities, including curating exhibits, managing community projects, working with guest artists and submitting entries into large-scale competitions and showcases. AoFA curriculum content expands upon the ACARA Visual Art and Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority Senior Visual Art Syllabus offer enrichment opportunities that explore a range of fine art techniques, manipulations of media and expand students personal and artistic expression. In this program, learning activities focus on providing students with opportunities to learn, and put into practice, skills utilised in the professional world of Visual Art.  Throughout their learning, students will develop a portfolio of work completed in this course which can be used when applying for entry into Visual Arts Industry jobs, Marketing and Fine Arts courses at TAFE and Tertiary institutions.

 

​Application Guide

Students who apply for the Academy of Fine Art (AoFA) Program must complete a 2-stage process:

Stage One

  • Complete a Arts Excellence Academies Application form (indicating preferrence for Academy of Fine Arts)
  • Attach two most recent levels of Achievement, Effort and Behaviour report cards​
  • You are also required to submit one original visual artwork which responds to the concept “All About Me…?" You must also submit a short statement (minimum 100 words) to explain your artwork.​​

  1. ​ You may use any form of visual art process or techniques to produce your work, including: drawing, painting, collage or sculpture

  2. ​Your visual artwork must be submitted digitally.  Please attach 4 close-up images of the artwork in your application.

  • ​Stage one applications close 3.00pm Friday 26 April 2024


A panel will assess all applications.  Successful applicants will be invited to progress to Stage Two.

*Not all candidates will progress to Stage ​Two.​

 

Stage Two

Applicants will be invited to attend a 90-minute Fine Art Workshop at Ormeau Woods State High School in term 2:

  • ​The workshop will focus on introducing students to still-life drawing skills

Please note, workshop dates will be advised via email.  A panel will then assess applicants to be offered a place in the Academy of Fine Art (AoFA)Program in 2025.​

  • Within the email attach all supporting documents (please ensure attachements contain the students name)
